Interviewing at Voodoo as a Product Manager
Successfully navigating the Voodoo recruitment process.

Earlier this year, I found myself looking for a fresh challenge. My ideal goal was a product role in a tech company in Paris that prioritised speed, innovation, and autonomy. A friend recommended that I speak with Alejandro, the Head of Product at Voodoo, a company whose impressive growth had already caught my attention.

Voodoo's interview process was like a well-designed game – comprehensive, engaging, and informative. It kicked off with a detailed conversation with Alejandro, during which we delved into my career trajectory, aspirations, and Voodoo's mission, strategy, and the specifics of the role. He outlined the key responsibilities that would fall under my purview as a Game Tech Product Manager – essentially to build robust tools and services that would enable game studios to create and test mobile games efficiently. By the end of this chat, I had a clear understanding of my role, the company, as well as the next steps.

Next up was the epic boss level challenge: a two-hour case study to assess time management effectively, the ability to identify a problem's major components and to recognize metrics.

I also took an aptitude test covering proficiency in English, Math, and logical reasoning. Kenza, my recruiter, advised me to take the aptitude test the next morning. I, on the other hand, slightly overconfident, took it right after sending my case study. While I did fine, I could definitely have done even better, had I followed her advice. (A word of advice to future applicants: pay heed to your recruiter, they are your best friend!)

A couple of days later, Kenza gave me feedback on my case study and also outlined the next steps: a case debrief with two Product Managers and an interview with the Engineering leaders. These conversations took place at Voodoo's Paris office where I first met Alejandro and Emmanuel from the Product team, who let me know about Voodoo’s organization and its product culture. This was followed by a one-hour chat with Karim and Riivo from the Engineering team in which we discussed my previous experience, as well as managing execution and expectations in a dynamic environment.

The final stretch of my interview journey involved a stakeholder conversation with Alvaro and Gabriel, VPs of Gaming. We explored my understanding of the role, my motivations, and strategies for typical challenges seen at Voodoo, particularly prioritization. I could deepen my learning about Voodoo's strategic positioning in the mobile gaming industry as well as its future vision.

After a 3-week process, I finally received the offer call from Kenza. I accepted the opportunity over others I was considering at the time, because I wanted to work in a rigorous, data-informed company that valued speed and autonomy, a place where I could quickly make a meaningful impact.

Reflecting on my journey, the process was thorough yet friendly. To those applying to Voodoo in the future, I advise you to treat the interview as a learning opportunity. Understand the company's goals, your role, and most importantly, the culture. It is crucial that you feel aligned with Voodoo's work values as the company does indeed live up to its values.
